Three exceptional things about you.
Hmmmmm! Let’s see, everything about me is exceptional. Lol:
1. I am a shy person….beep LIE…i am so talkative. I can talk my way out of every situation. I thought I would be a lawyer at some point in my life, lol.
2. I am a devoted Christian. Not just a Christian by mouth, I love God and I am not ashamed to admit that I am nothing without him.
3. I have a big forehead and I really think it makes me beautiful, Lol. People with the forehead complain a lot, but I actually really, really think it is sexy to have one….. Weird!
At what stage did you discover your love for the media and what are the steps you took into the radio world? -
I must have been about 18 when I was approached by a staff of Cool Fm back then. His name is Wale, he told me about an opportunity to be involved in a teenage program on the radio. I was a bit shy initially, I didn’t think my voice sounded good enough. After all the back and forth communication we had, I decided to do it, after all, I was going to be paid. My first recording was a blessing. I fell in love with radio there and then. Unfortunately it wasn’t as easy as that. My parents did not think it was cool enough to be on the radio. Back then, it wasn’t as welcoming as it is now.
I was told to resign and focus on getting a degree which i did, but when I graduated the hunger for something creative was bigger than even i could explain it. I worked at 2 bank outlets and felt so incomplete. I then decided to quit banking and give radio another chance. My older sister was extremely encouraging; In fact, she was the one who told me that Silverbird was hiring. I was very skeptical, but I gave IK Osakioduwa a call and let’s just say the rest is history.
TV for me was also a deep burning desire I have had since I was a teenager. I want to have my own Talk show someday soon. I believe i have a rare gift which I appreciate so much. People feel very comfortable talking to me. I have friends who call me when they are down and by the time we are done conversing they are laughing so hard.
You juggle both radio and television presenting, which would you say is easier to break into?
To be honest, none. I take nothing for granted; I won’t sell a dream to anyone out there that isn’t true. It is tough breaking into these departments. Anyone who got their big break easily is blessed and I am not saying that the people who struggled aren’t blessed but you have to love the hustle, you have to be dedicated, you have to pray like your life depends on it and as it is with any sector your hunger will lead you to success.
In what ways have networking and making contacts in the media industry helped you personally?
I feel blessed to even know half the people that I know now. The good thing about it is that it keeps getting better. The media introduces you to a world with not only the people you look up to but people you had no idea existed from music to fashion, lifestyle, politics and the sphere of life.
The avenue for growth is undeniable and the ability to get creative is evident For instance if I want to start a campaign I know exactly who to call to take it from a thought process and make it happen.
Lastly the knowledge is unending. To have people call/message you to let you know how much of an inspiration you are is just humbling. I would love to use this moment to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported me this far. I am living my dream
You recently hosted the MBGN Beauty pageant, was that your first time handling the microphone before a large crowd?
It was not my first time handling the Microphone, but I have to be honest, it doesn’t get any better than MBGN. It is such a huge platform and a great opportunity for me. I still find it hard to believe that the 25th anniversary which was a jubilee celebration was hosted by me. I was the MC at a wedding in South Africa in 2010. I love the microphone. Whenever I am at little gatherings or birthday parties, it comes so naturally to co-ordinate everyone there and to say something nice about the celebrant.
Asides the media, what else excites you?
Traveling. Unfortunately this year I haven’t done a lot of traveling because I have been so focused at work to take a break but I look forward to traveling.
What is your favorite wardrobe staple?
Right now I am feeling the Boyfriend Blazer. They have really lovely colours and you can glam it up and wear it down at your convenience
What would you say to young people who are aspiring to walk in your footsteps
Hmmmm! If you can dream it, never give up. Success is such a funny person, it gets so insecure about hard workers cos it knows that it would lose to hardworking people and it is snobbish to the lazy man. Choose who you want to be. The hard worker of the lazy man!
Also with God, nothing is impossible. Never ever ignore the God factor.
